Iron Glaze Plates

£96Set of four

Everyday plates with a shallow lip, so peas stay put. The set is four 24cm plates, thrown in one sitting so they stack properly.

5 left from this firing. Dispatched within 3 working days.

Fired twice. Thrown by hand. Yorkshire Dales. 1260°C. Two people. One kiln. 160 pieces a firing.

The glazeIron

The colour comes from red iron oxide, and it shifts with where the plate sat in the kiln. Plates near the bag wall come out browner, plates near the door lean towards purple. A set is always matched by eye, but no two sets are the same.

Colour
Dark chocolate brown, breaking to rust on the rim
Finish
Matt, slightly dry to the touch
Inside
Glazed on the eating surface, bare on the underside
Fired
Stoneware, 1260°C
